Tango began as a dance between men in the beginning of the 20th century. The swaggerers danced with one another on cobbled street corners in the poor district with nothing but the light of the streetlamps and chirps of the crickets to accompany them.
Over time women became more and more incorporated in the dance, but they had to hide in marginal areas, many times in brothels. Just the dance’s arrival at the courtyards of tenement housing was itself a great triumph.
A lot of time has passed since then and much has changed. Today this sensual and harmonious dance can be seen on the world´s main stages, paying homage to the great tango composers and authors of the last century, from the great Carlos Gardel to Astor Piazolla with his renowned songs ¨Balada para un loco¨ and ¨Libertango.¨
For our grand finale our show follows tradition by presenting a great singer and mixing the feeling, interpretation and charisma of our people into one experience. We end our show by inviting the guests on stage and making them the stars in honor and in memory of our beloved Beba Bidart; dancer, actress and singer, who, with her allure and kindness made Taconeando a refuge for tango fans and dancers.
